My doctor has allowed me to stand on the crucial foot, two months after surgery. I can use a single crutch. I can get upstairs. That means I can sleep in my own bed, and I've had my first bath in two months.

Luxuries beyond your wildest dreams. I'm feeling capable. But I still can't bend the knee.
